The Canadian Association of General Surgeons (CAGS), which is affiliated with the Canadian Network for International Surgery, sends surgeons to short missions in hospitals in Guyana and Uganda. CAGS surgeons work in Lacor Hospital in Gulu, Uganda, where celebrated Canadian international surgeon Lucille Teasdale worked for 35 years. The missions focus on teaching local staff surgical skills, as well as working in clinics and ORs.
General surgeons and specialist surgeons.
Guyana missions last two to three weeks. Uganda missions last two to three months.
Accommodation and travel are covered by the Guyana grant, but volunteers must cover their expenses if they go to Uganda.
